Candle Light Vigil- 54th Tibetan Uprising Day at Pestalozzi

10th March is an important day for me as it is for many other Tibetans. The community in which I am living is a small one but that didn't stop us from doing what we wanted to do. With support from our international students, we were able to do the candle light vigil. The wind was blowing harshly, but we all protected the candle light as if protecting Tibetans in Tibet from the cruel Chinese hands. Each day, I feel more proud to be a Tibetan. Each day, I want to see my land more. Is it really a dream out of dream to get my country back?

Tibetan Cultural Night

Yesterday, we had Tibetan Cultural Night. I was most delighted to learn about its success, both in giving awareness about Tibet's political situation and entertaining the guests.

Bellow are some comments that we got from Pestalozzi staff and guests:

From Patrick Glass (our care staff and SAT teacher)

Thank you very much to all concerned.  I thought it was a great evening.

Importantly, we were left in no doubt about the terrible Chinese repression of Tibetans and their culture. And the resistance by the Tibetans, in their dire situation, will stay with us forever - and hopefully spur us to action. This was put across with great dignity, along with the easy-to-comprehend cultural boards and artefacts.

On other things.  I found the dancing most uplifting.  I've never seen such enchanting Tibetan dancing - done with elegant grace and ease.
Wonderful!

Ngawang's Character Game was a surprising and original interval; and clearly enjoyed by all.

The food was a revelation - no wonder there are no fat Tibetans!

Having fewer chairs, and more space, in Swiss Hall was an excellent idea too.  People mingled well to good effect.  There was a real BUZZ last night, and that rarely happens.

Altogether, a most enlightening and enjoyable evening.  Well done indeed!

From Sarah Kadri (Student Programme Manager)

The Tibetan Cultural Evening was a great success, with the biggest turnout yet. The performances were impressive – the dance is definitly my favourite of the year so far!

What did you enjoy most? (from the guests)

·         Tibetan anthem - very melodic and pleasant, a moving experience
·         Participation with such cheerful and informative students
·         Both the serious side and the lighter creative side beautifully balanced
·         The performances - it was really enjoyable seeing difference cultural dance compared to  'English' dancing
·         The welcome. The historical, political, cultural contact, ethos, etc. The enthusiasm.
·         Everything! But meeting Tibetans, hearing them talking about their beloved country.
·         Artefacts, wall hangings, watching dancing, listening to singing, video, etc.

·         The dancing and tasting the different foods, very interesting and entertaining evening.
